pastimes2replace screen time #Cigna advice

“pastimes2replace screen time” is a shorter title than “what can boy do instead of screen time”.

This question raised by a Cigna counselor is plain, simple but worthwhile. Boy has to find other things to occupy his time.

Boredom might be a key difference between effective vs ineffective students.

##todo-dashboards #tabs

  • 1) inboxes — in MSOutlook and gmail are two disconnected dashboards, mostly for tasks given by other people
  • 2) browser tabs – each represents a task, but this breeds an over-reliance on blogging sites.
  • gmail draft
  • google calendar
  • (to be deleted) MSOutlook tasks — GTD author suggested MSOutlook tasks as the ultimate, but I find it useful only for a subset of my tasks.
  • — Now some all-time favorites that depend on no software, which are always over-complicated and less reliable
  • 0.txt was my primary dashboard for a few years
    • 😦 not for office
    • 🙂 printable
    • 🙂 high density with multiple items
    • 🙂 version history via git
    • Can use any decent text editor (not notepad or Winword)
  • paper notice board —
    • 🙂 highest visibility, good for a short span up to 2H.
    • 🙂 extremely simple and robust, similar to the space pen (pencil)
    • 🙂 Can be combined with other notice boards.

Conclusion — no perfect combination

300 repetitions/piece

I would say the practice is not boring not painful but enjoyment in itself.

— for a song with full score for both hands, I usually target 1000 repetitions/piece

— for a simple melody-n-sing piece as described in https://1330152open.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=23731&action=edit&classic-editor

aim at 300 repetitions/piece. Don’t need to be really flawless.

reward yourself for putting away home cooked left-over for 8Hr

Out of sight out of mind. The availability temptation is extremely hard to handle, as I experienced.

  • I deserve reward for starch abstinence, even if BMI doesn’t improve !
  • I deserve reward for putting away the most temptating food such as meat, fish etc
  • I deserve reward for putting away part of the left-over cooked food

— specific comfort foods as rewards

  1. ice cream
  2. milk shake
  3. eat the meat/fish etc during the day, outside the hot window (i.e. night time)

26 Sep weekend: roti target

analogy of saving — Without savings target, you will find all the precious water from the tap running down the drain.
… But with roti target, I can get a zsms, uncomfortable pressure. Perhaps positive planning is the better theme. Try to find the joy, the motivation. All of the hard absorbency tasks can produce juice of joy!

absorbency priorities :
… power surge?

## keywords related to FOMO

The influence of FOMO is pervasive i.e. deep and wide , in my mentality and in our society, culture and /collective psyche/. It takes many shapes and forms which required different descriptive words and metaphors.

I am a person of written words, abstract words, precise words. I need these words to reason, analyze, clarify, solve problems, discover and understand myself.

— FOMO/FOLB is a good pair. Compact form, good for blog titles
— kiasu  — rich meaning in Singapore. Same scope as FOMO.
— inferiority complex — rich meaning
— exclub — short acronym with fairly rich meaning.
This word has no online literature as FOMO/kiasu have. I have a /free hand/ to define its usage scope
— vainity — (虚荣) an actual English word !
— 虚空 — rich Buddhist meaning, different emphasis from FOMO.
